Dear Family of Shackelford:

Welcome to the 07-08 school year!  I am so happy when the school is filled with children.  It brings energy and happiness.  The Shackelford faculty is a great group and they care very much about your child being successful in his or her education.  Please communicate any needs, concerns, or successful things you see happening with your child.

The home and school need to be a solid team with trust and communication.  This year WISD has chosen to put as our highest goal to engage all families.  Shackelford certainly has always strived to honor parents as an important key to our success.  Schools that have actively, engaged parents are the most successful.  My door is always open, but there are times I have prescheduled meetings that keep me from being able to see you if you drop in.  If you do not mind waiting or coming back, that is fine, but calling ahead is better for you.  You and your child’s success are our mission.

We have students enrolling everyday.  The number is around 660 students as I write this letter.  There is a new elementary school being built for the next school year, but this year we will be crowded.  Please be patient with us as we are adjusting things to allow for the children to have the best learning environment.  We are balancing classes, and we will remain with the mandated 22:1 student/teacher ration for 1st through 4th grade.  Schedules are being tweaked and we will need notice to have your child ready if you need to pick them up early.  It is going to be a great year with miles of smiles and kiddos learning.

Roy Moore is our new assistant principal, and he is excellent.  Please drop in to meet us if you have not already.  We are both here to serve Shackelford.

Sincerely,

Nancy Edwards
